Hero-Pilots Square

In the first months of the Great Patriotic War, the aviation regiment suffered significant losses not only in the sky, but also on the ground: the Nazis knew the location of the airfield.

It was decided to build a well-disguised airfield within the city - on the Chubaevsky wasteland (at the 5th station of the Big Fountain). A huge amount of work was mastered (mainly by women and adolescents) in a week.

Now Admiral Avenue is located on the site of the former runway, and at the 5th station of the Big Fountain there is a Square and a monument to the Hero-Pilots. Architect V. Mironenko, sculptors V. Patorov, M. Eremenko, 1984.
